TIMES BANYUWANGI, MADINAH – There are certain things to consider when you happened around Masjid Nabawi, Madinah. You should pay attention to the clothing worn to avoid getting caught or falling while using the escalators in the toilets, especially for the senior pilgrims.
It should be noted that in the Nabawi area, there are escalators for going up and down towards the toilets. Escalators are also available in several hotels and shopping centers in Madinah.
This precaution was stated by a member of the Crisis Handling and First Aid Implementation Team for Hajj Pilgrims (PKP3JH), Titin Nurmaningsih. This response was prompted by an incident where an elderly pilgrim fell on the escalator at Masjid Nabawi.
An 80-year-old elderly pilgrim from Jakarta fell down the escalator and suffered quite serious injuries to the face. "The clothes were torn at the shoulder and the sarong was torn. The pilgrim fell because the sarong got entangled," she said.
Titin explained that the PKP3JH immediately provided first aid by stopping the bleeding and accompanied the victim to the local medical facility. However, the pilgrim was allowed to go home for outpatient care.
Titin advised pilgrims to take good care of their clothing to prevent it from getting caught in the escalator and causing them to fall and get injured.
"Pilgrims are reminded to carefully watch their clothing to prevent it from getting caught in the escalator. For example, make sure the sarong is not dangling, and the same goes for the clothing of female pilgrims. Be aware," she added.
Titin spills out some tips to prevent pilgrims from falling when using escalators. Among them are to pay attention to the signs and instructions on the escalator, stand in the correct position, make use of the available handrails, and pay attention to clothing especially when wearing the ihram.
To maintain body balance while on the escalator, keep a safe distance from others, be aware of the shoes and sandals when getting on the escalator, and remain calm while using the escalator are several other tips she gave to the pilgrims. (*)
